The Cellophane Flowers
First Impression
The Cellophane Flowers first approached media mouthful listing their video (which you may have seen in our post.. hint hint) as a reference, wanting to be our next featured band. Once I received their goodies in the mail, I gave their album if i was a girl a listen. I realized then, that they have a lot going for them.
Most notably, their song ‘count me in’ really caught my attention. The last of five quick tracks, this song sets the bar high for the band’s next (and hopefully full-length) album. Give it a listen.. It’s mellow-like and cool.

The Interview
That’s one interesting name you’ve got there. How’d you come to be known as the Cellophane
Flowers?
Ian (guitarist) fell in love with a song by The Secret Machines that had cellophane flowers in the lyrics. Years later, in a rare lucid period, he realised it was actually a lyric from Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. Cheeky tykes, stealing an idea like that. We spent a couple of years debating whether to include the ‘The’ in the band name – it was finally settled when Ian went to the loo at a crucial point when working on our logo with the designer.
I’ve seen another video on youtube for the same band name – they play more instrumental
and jazzy tunes. Was that a different version or lineup of this band, or just a coincidental
band name?
There must be a few Secret Macines fans out there.
Light, groovy, poppy… who, if anyone, has the most writing influence in the band? Are
the writing sessions just big group jams, or does somebody bring a song to the table
for ‘discussion?’
Light?! Fra (singer) brings songs in to the rehearsal room, Ian brings songs in, sometimes they
meet up and co-write, sometimes the band jams and Ian or Fra go away and write the lyrics. It goes
through phases – we’re currently in our purple phase.
What’s it like to be European? As an American, I feel like you’re all naturally SO much
cooler.
Kind of the same as being a human. It sucks everywhere. I guess the Italian teaches us the others
how to dress, the Brits teach the Italian how to pay taxes on the clothes, and the Australian just
turns up in thongs. Of course, a thong is beach footware to an Australian and skimpy underware
to an American (I think) or a Brit. The American/British thong is worn to more or less cover your
fanny, which means ass to an American (arse to a Brit) or a specialised female area of much interest
to the majority of male humans, whether they pay their taxes or not. As I say, it sucks.
When can I expect to see a new, longer-length album from the Cellophane Flowers?
Soon. We’re about to record a new single, then once that’s out of the way we’ll put together an
album which will mix up some of the stracks from our singles and brand new material. We haven’t
confirmed dates but watch this space – and buy the singles if you want to make it happen sooner!
Last but not least, is Fran single? Kidding, but she’s awesome. More mustaches in future
music videos, please!
Fortunately, there’s only one of her.
Love, TCF.
